Imagine a hot summer day where you come back from the days work — tired, hot and sweaty. What better way to relax and cool off than a swim in your own backyard pool, just lounge in the pool and let the day’s worries float away——–No membership fee.

No driving to the gym.

Splashing around in the water through the hot summer sounds like heaven for the kids as well. You can easily keep your kids happily occupied for hours with pool toys such as water slides, volley ball, float etc. Watch them splash, throw, squirt and have a blast playing with these pool toys in the swimming pool.

A backyard swimming pool can be your greatest joy and pleasure. Whether you want a place to entertain friends or family, a gathering spot for your kids to enjoy, a private place where you can swim anytime of the day or night, or you just want to beautify your backyard.

The soothing sound of water from a waterfall or spillover spa can add to your relaxation. With the addition of a heater, slide, diving board, safety cover or outdoor toys and games, your retreat can bring enjoyment to people of all ages. Fiber optic lighting can further give a soothing ambiance to your evenings and add beauty to your backyard paradise.

A pool definitely brings family and friends closer together while enhancing your quality of life through recreation and relaxation. You can enjoy swimming pool parties with your friends and family, enjoy a big weekend splash. Having your own pool gives you the freedom to do so any time any day.

Since swimming has therapeutic benefits, backyard pools can be great additions for more than simply entertaining. They make sense as a low impact way to strengthen muscles or just relax. Swimming, water walking, or water aerobics can be ideal for people with physical disabilities or injuries.

In fact you actually can allow your swimming pool to freeze over in the winter and use it as a skating rink. That is of course if you live in a climate that sees a couple months of below freezing temperatures, you’re an ideal candidate.
Today, almost any shape is possible from elongated lap pools to vanishing edge pool or infinity pools where the water seems to tumble off the edge of the earth. In fact, most pools are modified to meet the needs of the homeowner to include amenities such as a kid’s pool, Jacuzzi, or a counter-current machine for exercise. All you really need to design your own pool is a spark of creativity and a contractor.
A swimming pool is something the entire family can enjoy and benefit from. It offers fun, fitness, relaxation, recreation and entertainment. So dive in! And have fun

The earliest years of recreational scuba training were rigorous and labeled too militaristic by some educators and trainers. They argued that easier training would open diving to a greater portion of public, and make it more popular and profitable. This encouraged some scuba manufacturers, who needed a growing diving population to support their product sales, to actually develop a number of the earlier diver training courses. This led to the growth of the recreational diving public, which, coupled with the establishment of private training organizations, succeeded in bringing scuba diving to everyone. Nowadays almost all of us can participate in a diving course. In may cities we have a divers clubs associated with schools, colleges, universities and other. However, there are three obvious limitations connected with participating in a diving course. First one refers to one’s own health, which conditions may sometimes be insufficiently well to perform an underwater activities. Second one – is pure material reason called money. Diving courses, while not performed on behalf of university, or school, are in general relatievley expensive. The third, and the last limit is our will, which sometimes may happen to be not strong enough to help us stay.

Many of my fondest childhood memories were made while on vacation with my family. When the money was there, we flew all over the world and saw places as varied as Thailand and London. When the budget was tighter, we went on road trips around the U.S. towing the camping trailer. Either way, we spent time together and we were better for it. A few of the best reasons to take time out for travel and recreation with your family are listed below.

1. Bonding as a family.

It’s no secret that in the United States today, families don’t spend the quality time together they used to. Thirty Years ago, even twenty years ago, most families sat down together in the evening to share a meal and discuss the events going on in their lives. Parents had a much better understanding of how their children were doing, and children had a much better sense of how important they were in their parents’ lives.

I have friends who attribute 100% of the closeness in their family to the fact that they traveled together when they were children. On trips there are no friends, sports, or school to distract them. They have only time to spend with each other, and bonds naturally form.

2. Educating your children.

How often is it just you and your kids? Think about it. How frequently are you able to have quality time with your kids where they don’t have their friends or their video games to distract them? In those moments when you have your kids’(mostly) undivided attention you can teach them things they’d never otherwise know. My parents were committed to taking my siblings and me all over the United States and to various countries around the world. All of us, to this day, have an appreciation for other cultures and a desire to experience the world and its people. Nothing could have given us that desire like traveling together as a family when we were young. I wouldn’t trade those trips for anything, and I plan to do the same things with my children.

3. Improve your marriage.

The divorce rate is as high as it has ever been. We all know the most common causes of divorce. What do the celebrities always say when the get divorced? “Irreconcilable Differences.” I’m not sure what that means, but I think I have some good guesses as to why it’s not working out for people. They aren’t a priority in each other’s lives, and they don’t spend the time together that would help keep their bond strong. I believe that sometimes divorce is the natural result of two people living together but leading completely separate lives. If they would just travel and recreate together as couples they could re-establish that bond and have an opportunity to become part of one life again instead of having two separate lives in the same home.

4. Perspective on Life and Reduced Stress

I’d have to check the statistics to be sure, but it seems to me that people take less leisure time than they used to. Bigger homes, more expensive cars, and other life costs are forcing us to work more and more to maintain our ‘minimum standard of living.’ But what’s the cost? We get so focused on day to day living and the maintenance of a lifestyle we don’t really care about that we forget what really matters to us. And what is that? Who knows - it’s different for everybody. It might be quality of experiences we have with our children. It might be art, or music, or volunteering. Or- it might be money and business. Isn’t it funny to think we might be working so hard and for the wrong reasons that we stop loving a business or a job that we used to wake up so excited for?

Getting away for travel and vacation clears the mind of the clutter of the day. It allows us to reflect and say “Am I happy with what I’m doing? Is it in the best interest of my family and my future?” It’s probably not a good idea to go through life without ever asking those questions.

Your leisure time is crucial to your emotional and physical health, and to the health of your most important relationships. You should make it more of a priority than money or career.

Many people consider that fish are only a medium of survival, or to some extent a food supply; yet there is another angle that is little known. The manufacturing industry utilizes more than two billion pounds of fish and fish by-products every year. This is slightly more than is used for food.

What most people do not know is that fishing continues to provide recreational activity of making it one of the most preferred hobbies.

In fact, fishing as a hobby is continuously growing and that is why the estimated number of people who acquire fishing licenses each year is more than 12 million.

Moreover, surveys show that for every dollar spent for a fishing license, there are sixteen dollars spent for equipment, such as fishing tackle, food, clothing, and transportation. There is more money spent on fishing than on any other hobby in existence. Why is it a Great Hobby?

It is a means of providing something to free the mind and body of the worries of the day. It has also been proven to help in mentoring troubled teens, replacing negative thoughts and activity with more positive traits and pursuits. Fishing is truly a wholesome sport.

The use of all types of fishing equipment has added something that no other feature could possibly accomplish. Thousands of youngsters are enthusiastic to learn how to cast a fly or plug bait.

These youngsters have an interest in fish and fishing and they desire to fish in a lawful and recreational manner. Boiled down, fish and fishing may be considered one of man’s essential resources. It is hoped that further realization of fishing as a hobby will develop the necessary knowledge of the true recreational value of fishing, the fish, and the general conservation of all natural resources as well as the value of good sportsmanship and developing good citizens

Nobody has to tell you how stressful it is living in today’s society. Because the cost of living has sky rocketed, we have to worry about paying bills, holding on to our jobs and providing for our children. Many of us work long hours seated at a desk, leaving us unable to get much exercise. To make matters worse, after we finally get home and put dinner on the table and get our children settled in for the night, we end up plopping down on the couch, in front of the television.

Some of us may head to the computer to surf the web or answer email correspondence. The combination of daily stress and lack of exercise has a poor effect on our bodies. It also impacts our minds because without a way to reduce stress, it may adversely our sleep habits and cause forms of insomnia. This can decrease our ability to think clearly during the day and can make it difficult to complete even simple tasks. That’s why it is of great importance to find an outlet for our stress and have fun as well. One such way is to participate in recreational sports.

Participating in recreational sports is an excellent way to relieve stress. It can be as simple as joining your local bowling league. Bowling is a lot of fun and it’s something that the whole family can participate in. You can rent the shoes for it at the alley and use their bowling balls, so you don’t have to buy expensive gear. If you have extra space in your home, you can invest in a ping pong table.

It might not seem like it but ping pong is a great form of exercise because you have to move around your side of the table a lot to keep the ball in play. It also requires you to swing your arm which provides additional skill. Many people have turned to golf as a way to get in shape and relax. Golf requires a lot of walking and swinging of the club. Most golf courses are designed to look like parks so playing a game of golf can take you out of your stressful atmosphere at work and place you in a peaceful setting where you can get some exercise and relax at the same time.

There are many other choices available in recreational sports. You can choose to take a dance class, or go bicycle riding. You can team up with some friends and take daily walks around the neighborhood or even in the mall. Mall walking is very popular and many stores open early to allow people to walk through them without having to do so while the shoppers are there. There’s also tennis, running and horseback riding. For the brave, there is parasailing and extreme sports like mountain climbing that burn calories and relieve stress while providing them with the thrills of a lifetime.

While most people would think that hunting is only for serious sportsmen, recreational shooting should change their minds. Recreational shooting includes the sport of trap and skeet shooting as well as the popular paint ball and air gun variations. Sling shot shooting is also part of this category along with soft air gun shooting.

Trap and skeet shooting is the sport of shooting clay targets by using a shotgun. These clay targets are called clay pigeons and are released into the air at high speeds. Originally using live pigeons, this sport changed the targets to clay discs for a more reliable and humane target. Trap and skeet shooting equipment, include, aside from a high quality shotgun, target throwers, clay targets or discs and of course, shotgun ammunition.

Paintball shooting or simply known as paintball is a recreational shooting sport where competitors try to eliminate each other from the playing field by shooting each other with paint filled gelatin capsules. Using a compressed gas-powered gun or known to paintball enthusiasts as a marker, these paint-filled balls are shot at opponents at an estimated velocity of 300 feet per second, as per safety standards. Paintball hits are painful at any velocity or distance, hence the implementation of safety rules and gear. One safety precaution is in the mandated use of a paintball mask and goggle system. These safety accessories are usually sold as a set and may go for $24.99 to $69.99. Other equipment required for this sport include the marker and the paintballs. Markers sell for somewhere between $99.99 to $299.99, depending on the brand. Paintballs are sold at prices that range from $11.99 to 34.99, depending on the number of balls in the package.

Air guns are pneumatic guns which use compressed air to propel a projectile through the air. Air guns, more popularly known as BB guns, come in rifle configurations. These air rifles come in calibers that include .177 inch or 4.5mm, .20 inch or 5.0 mm, .22 inch or 5.5mm and .25 inch or 6.35 mm. Rifles for this sport usually come in the price brackets of $29.99 for the least expensive model to the top of the line cost of $479.99. Accessories for air guns or air rifles are gun scopes, shooting glasses and of course, ammunition pellets available according to the gun’s caliber designation.

Soft air guns are a tamer and softer shooting version of the air rifles. Airsoft, as it is more popularly called, is usually used in war simulation tactical games or war games. As with paintball, airsoft games require a certain amount of protective gear to minimize injury. Impact-rated goggles are a must for this sport and the goggles usually used for paintball is often used here as well. Soft air guns can also be used alone with stationary targets.

Slingshots have come a long way from the old wooden prong and rubber band attachment used to launch stones and other projectiles. The modern slingshot is now composed of a steel prong with a molded plastic handle. While still using the basic principle of the old slingshot, modern sling shots offer a more accurate and controlled shot. These are also sold with their own glass ammo.

Chattooga River Geography

The Chattooga River is the main tributary of the Tugaloo River. The actual headwaters (origin) of the river is located in North Carolina, just south of the town of Cashiers. The river forms the boundary between Georgia and South Carolina, after flowing out of North Carolina. Originating at the base of Whitesides Mountain, a massive, 4,800 foot tall granite wall, multiple creeks and streams converge, creating the Chattooga River.

The Chattooga watershed is made up of 180,000 acres in three states (SC, GA and NC) and composed of private and public lands. The river flows about 57 miles, until it runs later into Lake Yonah. Technically, the Chattooga River has been separated into various sections according to its “Wild and Scenic” designation. The majority of the river has been designated “wild” while only 14.6 miles of the river have been designates as “recreational”. The Chattooga is home to more than a hundred types of fish, including three species of trout. The Walhalla State Fish Hatchery regularly releases trout into the local Rivers, creeks and streams.

The North Fork of the Chattooga River is what most people refer to when they simply say the “Chattooga River”. The Chattooga is separated in the North Fork, East Fork and West Fork.

The river flows around three National Forests. The Chattahoochee, Nantahala and Sumpter National Forests which add to the overall beauty of the riversides.

Chattooga River History

The original inhabitants of the Chattooga River basins and areas were the Native Americans, specifically the Cherokee Nation. One of the more recent discoveries was in the 1990’s when a 1700’s era Cherokee Village, known as Chattooga Town, was discovered along the banks of the Chattooga River.

Originally, the river was not the boundary between the two states. South Carolina technically did not stretch down the Chattooga River before the 1800’s. The treaty of 1816 changed the boundary of South Carolina to where it is currently, which then made the river act as a boundary line between the two states.

Before the Treaty of 1816, the river belonged to the Cherokee Nation.

There are locations in the Ellicott Rock Wilderness area, which the Chattooga is a part of, that have remained relatively unchanged from their earliest known history. In the East, the Chattooga River is banked by the Sumter National Forest; in the west, the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Chattooga River Rafting and Recreation

The Chattooga River is one of the only Class V option whitewater rapids in the region. During the high-water months, you can experience the best whitewater rafting around. There are also multiple options for horseback riding, including bringing your own mounts to designated trails within the National forest. Since many of the scenic areas along the river contain waterfalls and side trails, hiking and exploring are popular activities along the river.

If you want to spend time fishing, you have your pick from many lakes, ponds, streams and creeks.

So you love to sing? Besides deriving the recreational pleasure of good singing, do you know that singing is actually good for your health and can even extend your longevity provided that you sing with the correct techniques?

The National Charity, Heart Research of the United Kingdom intends to get everyone in the world singing from 8-15 December 2008 to help raise funds to find cures for heart diseases and also because this charity believes that there are sufficient evidence to show that singing is good for your health.

Professor Graham Welch, who is the Chairman of Music Education at the Institute of Education, University of London has studied developmental and medical aspects of singing for more than three decades said not so long ago that health benefits of good singing are both physical and psychological.

Singing has physical benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and it exercises major muscle groups in the upper body. Singing has psychological benefits because of its normally positive effect in reducing stress through the action of the endocrine system which is linked to our sense of emotional well being.

Psychological and emotional benefits are also pretty evident when people sing together as a group because of the increased sense of community bonding, belonging and shared recreation pursuit.

According to a research conducted by leading singer cum singing teacher, Helen Astrid from The Helen Astrid Singing Academy in London, regular vocal cord exercises are also thought to prolong life.

This was what Helen said, “Singing is an excellent way to keep fit because you are exercising your lungs and heart (cardio vascular exercise). Furthermore, your body produces endorphins (happy hormones), just like when you eat a bar of chocolate except that with singing is that you won’t consume any extra calories as in eating chocolates! Singing not only increases your lung capacity, it improves posture, clears respiratory tracks and sinuses and can even increase mental alertness through greater oxygenation. Singing often also helps to tone and firm up your abdominal and back muscles as well. However, that is if you are singing correctly using the correct singing techniques.”

“Another great benefit of singing is that it can keep you looking young since you are gently exercising your facial muscles”, added Helen who looks more than a decade younger than she really is. Isn’t this the most natural and inexpensive anti-aging treatment?

According to the findings of a joint study conducted by Harvard and Yale, singing can even help you live longer. The study showed that choral singing increased the life expectancy of the population of New Haven, Connecticut. This report concluded that this was because singing promotes a healthy heart and an enhanced mental state.

So if singing is really good for your health, then let’s have fun, keep fit and healthy by singing more often. However, do bear in mind that it is not just the mere action of singing that gives you all these health benefits, but correct singing that do.

Remember the song by Helen Reddy “Keep On Singing”? Go on, sing away!
